Licensure

What is involved in getting your teacher's license?

  • Recommendation for an Indiana Teacher's License is made following a successful period of student teaching.

  • The teacher education program and all Taylor University graduation requirements must be completed.

  • Must pass the Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments (reading, writing, and mathematics skills) and the Praxis II: Specialty Area Tests.

  • Must complete a teaching license application (State form #9331), including an original limited criminal history report.

  • If planning to teach in another state, certification requirements and application materials may be obtained by contacting the state's Department of Education. Upon request, the 2002-2003 Teacher Certification Requirements in All Fifty States is available for viewing.

What are the Praxis tests?

  • Assessments of pre-professional skills in reading, writing, and mathematics as part of the Indiana teacher certification process.

  • Administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

  • Registration for the tests can be done by mail, online, or, if a Praxis Series test has previously been taken, one can re-register by phone.

  • To register by mail, a Registration Bulletin can be obtained from Professor Rebecca Moore (RC 113) on the Upland campus of Taylor University.

  • To register online visit www.ets.org/praxis. Online registration receives immediate confirmation of test center assignment.
