NCATE Update
Taylor University was granted continuing accreditation by National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) after the
continuing accreditation visit in Fall 2000. Taylor University has been
NCATE accredited since 1962. NCATE accreditation requires reviews of
individual programs to ensure that rigorous academic standards are
being met in the preparation of teachers. NCATE accreditation is based
upon performance evidence that demonstrates the institution’s teacher
candidates know the subject matter and can teach it effectively so
students can learn. Taylor University teacher education candidates can
connect theory to practice and are effective in P-12 classrooms. As a
result of NCATE continuing accreditation, the Indiana Professional
Standards Board has also granted continuing accreditation to Taylor
University. The Education Department regularly engages in
self-evaluation to improve the quality of the teacher education program
as well as the quality of teacher education candidates. The next NCATE
site visit is scheduled for fall 2006.
