Purpose Statement
Within the context of a Christian world view, the liberal arts, and
professional education, the purpose of the Department of English and
Professional Writing is to develop students’ abilities to think,
listen, speak, and write clearly, analytically, critically, and
creatively. The department offers majors in Professional Writing,
English Studies and a minor in Journalism; all areas in which students
can grow and develop their abilities, not only through classes, but
through practical application. Our mission is to equip competent
communicators who are prepared to influence the world for Christ.
