Employed by private companies and public enterprises in employee assistance programs, social workers help employees with problems that have a direct impact on their work performance. These problems can include substance abuse, marital problems, work-related stress or depression, all of which can have a negative impact on a person’s productivity.
As members of a socially responsible corporate community, social workers provide services to distressed employees as an alternative to discharging or relocating them. Social workers also assist displaced and disabled workers by providing counseling and making referrals to appropriate services when the employee is in need of retraining or special rehabilitation services.
