Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science in Social Work
As an interdenominational evangelical Christian undergraduate institution, Taylor University Fort Wayne's mission is to educate students for lifelong learning and for ministering the redemptive love of Jesus Christ to a world in need. The mission of the social work program at TUFW is: The knowledge, skills, and value bases of the social work profession are consistent with Christian principles and values, thus the Taylor social work program seeks to prepare students to integrate their faith and practice based on a holistic Christian liberal arts foundation.
Taylor University's social work program, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education beginning in 1980, offers either a B.A. (has a language requirement) or a B.S. in Social Work. Baccalaureate level social workers are prepared for beginning generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities with special emphasis on direct service to client systems. The Social Work major enables the graduate to enter the profession or enter a master's in social work degree program.

What can YOU do with a degree in Social Work?
- Begin generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, and communities with special emphasis on direct service to client systems. Graduates are prepared to apply for state credentialing as beginning-level social work practitioners in most states.
- Enter Masters in Social Work (MSW) degree program.
What do social workers do?
- Provide assistance in living and link individuals, families, small groups, and communities with resources.
- Optimize people's interactions with their social environment so that the client system defines what is satisfying rather than the surrounding culture.
- Intervene in society on behalf of client systems.
- May engage in social action to bring about change for the betterment of societies disenfranchised people.
- Shape relationships with people and their environments to facilitate the accomplishment of life tasks, realization of aspirations and values, and alleviate distress.
- Help client systems enhance their capacity for social functioning.
- Provide clinical services in such areas as substance abuse, mental health, family therapy, employee assistance, sexual dysfunction, and career and vocational counseling.
- Keep on the forefront of social change.
- Perform variety of tasks with diverse populations.
- Gather information.
- Assess situations and define issues.
- Develop plans for action and implement those plans.
- Evaluate results of implemented plans.
- Advocate and mobilize social change toward a society more responsive to people's changing needs and more focused on social and economic justice.
