Federal Grants

Federal grants are available to high-need students. Eligibility is dependent on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as determined by the FAFSA process. For the Pell Grant and FSEOG award, the size of the award also depends on the EFC. Listed below are some details on the grants that are part of the federal aid program.


Federal Pell Grant: Up to $4,310 for 2007-08
Deadline: FAFSA must be submitted by the end of the enrollment period

  • Grant generally requires at least half-time enrollment
  • Amount is need-based
  • Requires submittal of the FAFSA
  • Available to all who qualify financially

FSEOG: Up to Pell Grant Amount with maximum of $4,000

  • Used to match Pell Grant funds for Non-Indiana residents (in limited cases)
  • Requires submittal of the FAFSA
  • Limited availability

Academic Competitiveness Grant (AGC)

  • Available to 1st and 2nd year students only.
  • Award amounts:
    • 1st year – $750
    • 2nd year – $1,300 (requires at least 30 credit hours)
  • General eligibility criteria include:
    • Must submit FAFSA
    • US Citizen
    • Pell-eligible
    • Full-time enrollment
    • High school diploma based on ‘rigorous’ academic course work
  • Additional second-year requirements:
    • Graduated from high school after January 1, 2006
    • College GPA of at least 3.0 at end of 1st year
