The Student Aid Report (SAR)

The federal processing office should complete the processing of your FAFSA form in just a couple days if you file and sign it electronically. If you send in a paper FAFSA, the process takes longer. When processing is complete, a summary of the information, called the Student Aid Report (SAR), is sent to you. If you provided an e-mail address on your FAFSA, the SAR will be sent to you electronically. At the same time, an electronic summary of your FAFSA data is sent to Taylor University Fort Wayne and any other schools you listed as recipients on your FAFSA. When you receive the SAR:

  • Examine the SAR closely to be sure it is complete and correct.
  • If you find errors or need to add information that was missing, make the changes needed – either electronically if you filed the FAFSA online or manually on the SAR that was mailed to you. Then sign the hard copy report or use your PIN on the electronic version and return it to the federal processor. For dependent students, both the student AND a parent must sign the corrected SAR. Note that a new SAR will then be returned to you, based on the corrections submitted. Each time you return corrections, be sure to sign the SAR along with (for dependent students) one parent.
  • One important item found on the SAR is the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
