Welcome Alumni!
Welcome to our Taylor University Fort Wayne Alumni page!
Much has transpired since the announcement October 13, 2008, to discontinue the undergraduate program of TUFW May 31, 2009. A recent development is that Taylor University has committed to fund a director of alumni and friend relations based in Fort Wayne effective June 2009. This full-time person will facilitate Fort Wayne campus alumni activities and opportunities and care for you.
This site will be used to communicate the next steps in our journey together. You will find many resources to assist you.
If our alumni team can assist or pray for you, please contact us alumni@fw.taylor.edu or call 260.744.8790.
Hope to see or hear from you soon,
Michael D. Mortensen ‘91
Director of Alumni & Parent Relations
TUFW Alumni Office Updates
Over 800 alumni and friends with their families returned for Heritage Weekend 09 May 8 and 9. Multiple activities allowed alumni to reconnect, relive and reminisce. During the Friday evening dinner, Taylor University President Dr. Gene Habecker announced the following items:
- Effective June 1 and at the recommendation of the Fort Wayne Alumni Council, Brown Gables will be utilized for service as the Fort Wayne Alumni Resource Center, and as a place to provide continuing alumni services, activities, and programs. As you know, Brown Gables has housed multiple Fort Wayne presidents and leaders.
- Michael Mortensen, current Director of Alumni and Parent Relations has agreed to serve as the new Director of Fort Wayne Alumni and Friends Relations effective June 1.
- Brown Gables will also serve as a place where Fort Wayne archival material will be preserved and displayed.
- The Fort Wayne Alumni Council will continue to provide service into the future. Two members of that Council will begin to serve on the University's Alumni Council.
- Plans for this campus after May 31? The University has partnered with Ambassador Family Enterprises to help determine the ideal scenario as to the highest and best use of this historic place. That kind of scenario, ideally, should honor the heritage of the campus even as it complements the neighborhood and serves as an anchor for the South side of Fort Wayne.
Ambassador and its leadership team are well known in the Fort Wayne community. Ambassador leadership is very familiar with Fort Wayne Bible College, Summit Christian College, and TUFW. Gary Cooper, parent of a TUFW grad and a former Taylor and TUFW professor, will be the point person for this important assignment. Ambassador has spent considerable time with the Fort Wayne Alumni Council.
There is no doubt in my mind that the legacy of Fort Wayne Bible College and its successors will be profound and massive in the coming decades. Because that legacy is you and also thousands of other Fort Wayne graduates, this legacy is living and active. Indeed, each one of you is part of this " vine of God's own planting." And it is for that vine's continued growth and sustenance that we continue to work, hope, and pray to the glory of God.
