Dr. Robert Christian Strubhar
Dr. Robert Christian Strubhar passed away on August 19, 2007, after a brief illness. He was 92 years of age.
Dr. Strubhar was born in Washington, Illinois, on March 28, 1915. He was raised on a farm and felt called of God to enter the Gospel ministry at the age of 17. He graduated from Fort Wayne Bible Institute in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and took the pastorate of a small church in Mount Clemens, Michigan. He pastored churches for more than 70 years, serving congregations in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, California, and Arizona.
After receiving a Bachelors degree from Westmont College and a Masters degree from Wheaton Graduate School of Theology, he became the Department Chairman and Professor of Pastoral Theology at Fort Wayne Bible College where he served for 16 years. During that time, he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois.
For many years, he served as an evangelist and Bible teacher throughout the Midwest, ministering in many different denominational venues. During that time, he also served as the District Superintendent of the Midwestern District of the Missionary Church, Inc. When he retired, he moved to Glendale, Arizona, where he pastored the Glencroft Community Church. His most significant ministry was to the Church of One. Each week he wrote out a new sermon for his beloved wife, Verna, to read because she had lost her hearing.
In his mid 80's he published his first book, Becoming Bible Friendly. He mentored many young pastors and invested his life in his family. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Verna, and great grandson, Stephen Niednagel. He is survived by sons, Dr. John (Sandy) Strubhar of Lake Worth, Florida, Rev. Peter (Ronda) Strubhar of Glendale, Arizona, and daughter Mary (G'Quintyn) Strubhar-Brown of Alta Loma, California, along with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 25, at the Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Burial will be at the Glendale Cemetery in Washington, Illinois. A Memorial service will be held at Glencroft Community Church on the campus of the Glencroft Retirement Community on Saturday, September 1, at 10:00 am in Glendale, Arizona. Memorials may be designated to the Glencroft Foundation.
