The TUFW Athletic Hall of Fame Committee unanimously approved the class of 2011 inductees:
Thomas "Tom" Joseph Rust g72 Tom's athletic career at Fort Wayne Bible College spanned 1966-1970, earning him six varsity letters in three sports. Since his graduation he has been active in Youth For Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, chaplain to the Michigan State University football team, and from 2000-2008, basketball chaplain for the Indiana University Hoosiers. Today is is perhaps best known for his Face to Face Ministries which since 1992 has featured radio interviews with Christian athletes. Tom was named the Taylor University Fort Wayne Distinguished Alumnus for Personal Achievement in 2002. In 2004 he was honored with the Marv Bates Award as the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Calvin "Cal" John Rychener g81 Cal came to Fort Wayne Bible College in the fall 1977. While at FWBC Cal distinguished himself, playing in 103 games, finishing third (at that time) on the all-time scoring list with 1,810 points, made 786 rebounds and 225 assists. He also excelled in the classroom, receiving the Sermon Award in his junior year, and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges as well as Delta Epsilon Chi, a scholastic honor society. He has continued to grow as a person, pastor and husband. He is pastoring the Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, IL, which they planted and has grown to 3,600 in 20 years. Cal has received numerous community awards, and Taylor University Fort Wayne's Distinguished Alumnus for Professional Achievement in 2005.
Corey C. Laster g93 Corey came to Summit Christian College in 1989 as a transfer student. He played on the basketball team first under Coach Jim Hughes fs85 then Bud Hamilton g68 with whom he formed a close bond. In 1991-92, the team went 19-11 and won their National Christian College Athletic Association II District Championship. Corey was also a leader throughout his experience on campus, becoming the co-chair for the Student Council Activities. He finished his career in the upper tier of players with over 1,200 pts, 800 rebounds and as many as 8 blocked shots in a game. After graduation, Corey approached Coach Hamilton resulting in his becoming Coach for the Women's basketball program. The team experienced a dramatic turn around. In 2002-03, the team was 25-3, finishing Sth in the USCAA II national tournament. He also mentored individuals on the team. He has gone on to coach four women's basketball programs, currently at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, an NCAA II school.
2006 Men's Basketball Team The Men's Basketball Team of 2005-2006 distinguished themselves as the USCAA II National Champions, winning 74-68 over Cincinnati-Clermont College in a hard-fought game. The team was comprised of Virgil Akers, Jesse Boldt, Seneca Bratton, Andrew Johnson, Issac McClung, Richard Thomas, Kevin Woods, John Yoder, Adam Zimmerman, Bud Hamilton, Coach, Bob Hamilton, assistant, and Carl Nuffer, manager.
