TUFW and Heartland Church to Offer "Presence"

Date: August 25, 2008

TUFW is partnering with Heartland Church to offer "Presence: Contemporary Worship in the Local Church."

Presence is a course designed to equip worship teams to effectively lead contemporary worship in a local church setting. It will enable participants to: think biblically about worship; build the character of a lead worshiper; learn the relational dynamics of being part of a team; engage in fresh, relevant expressions of worship; and refine practical skills.

Presence brings together TUFW's tradition of academic excellence with Heartland Church's 20-year track record of training lead worshipers. Internationally-known worship leaders Geraldine Latty and Sue Rinaldi, who have led the largest worship conferences in Europe, will facilitate the training modules. Individuals from more than 40 churches throughout Indiana and Ohio have already experienced these training modules.

Andrew Booth, who leads Heartland Church, said, "The church needs more than just song-leaders and good musicians. It needs lead worshipers; people of maturity, humility, and character who can facilitate passionate and purposeful worship experiences that consistently draw a congregation close to God."

The course consists of four weekend modules held at Heartland Church, including:

  • A Theology of Worship (September 5 and 6),
  • The Heart of a Lead Worshiper (October 3 and 4),
  • The Skills of a Lead Worshiper (October 31 and November 1), and
  • Worship, Creativity and Postmodernity (November 21 and 22).

Presence is open to anyone interested, but it can also be taken for credit through TUFW. Those interested in receiving college credit can contact TUFW's Enrollment Services Office at 260.744.8689 or admissions@fw.taylor.edu and register for PMI 370.

For those not wanting college credit, the four modules can be taken by themselves for $99 each or $299 for all four. To take the modules for non-credit, contact Heartland Church at 260.483.1770 or info@hccfw.com.

Friday classes run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and Saturday classes are scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
