Transitions, Opportunities Task Forces Appointed

Date: October 15, 2008

President Habecker has appointed two task forces following yesterday's announcement to discontinue the traditional undergraduate program on its Taylor University Fort Wayne branch campus on May 31, 2009.

The task forces are comprised of faculty and staff members from the Taylor and TUFW campuses. One task force has been charged with management of transitional matters while the second will study and provide recommendations for future opportunities on Taylor's Upland and Fort Wayne campuses.

"The purpose of these task forces is to aid in the multiple transitions faced by our students, faculty and staff and create recommendations for viable future possibilities that exist for our Fort Wayne campus," said Dr. Eugene B. Habecker, president. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with the City of Fort Wayne and hope to share the results of our work together in the coming months with everyone."

The TUFW Transitions Task Force focuses on:

  • Assisting TUFW underclassmen to finish their degree at Taylor's Upland campus.
  • Supporting affected faculty and staff during this time of change.

The TUFW Transitions Task Force will be chaired by Dr. Duane Kilty, TUFW Chancellor. Dr. Kilty will report to the President while working closely with Taylor's Provost, Dean of Enrollment, Vice President for Business and Finance, and the Vice President for Advancement.

The Taylor University Consolidation and Opportunities Task Force focuses on:

  • Studying which programs at TUFW may be consolidated into the undergraduate program at Taylor's Upland campus.
  • Exploring the potential of future Taylor academic programs in the Fort Wayne Community.
  • Developing recommendations for alternative uses for the Fort Wayne Facility.

The Taylor University Consolidation and Opportunities Task Force will be chaired by Dr. Connie Lightfoot, dean of Taylor's School of Professional and Graduate Studies. Recommendations, consistent with the Board of Trustee action, will be made in an appropriate and timely manner.
