Residence Life
In his book, Life Together, Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes, “But if there is so much blessing and joy even in a single encounter of brother with brother, how inexhaustible are the riches that open up for those who by God’s will are privileged to live in the daily fellowship of life with other Christians.”
Residence Life at Taylor University Fort Wayne places a strong emphasis on community, support, and development, all of which stems from the privilege of doing life together on campus and in the residence halls. At TUFW, Residence Life desires to develop well-rounded students who have a firm understanding of their own identity, as well as their identity in and through Jesus Christ; to provide students with an environment of support and belonging; and to provide opportunities for growth by way of intentional educational programming that is spiritually forming, relationally engaging, physically challenging, emotionally stirring, vocationally equipping, and intellectually stretching. The Residence Life program seeks to develop a safe, inclusive community, wherein each member – student and staff alike – feels included, valued and has a sense of belonging and ownership.
Students who live on campus have the chance to experience depth and breadth in relationships. Living in close proximity with diverse groups of people creates daily opportunities to get to know other students who are similar and very different than themselves. Such opportunities include but are not limited to participating in Bible studies and prayer groups, wing activities, and community service projects. Interaction with classmates and wing-mates can provide moments of introspection in which students discover details of their calling, and recognize social justice issues that they may not have considered otherwise.
Upon graduation, students should be prepared for their calling not only for the work-force, but also in the real world. Our desire is that TUFW graduates will be prepared for life “in the world but not of the world” by understanding what it means “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.”
