Health Services

How does it work?
- The Lutheran Health Network operates two urgent care systems, StatCare and RediMed, each of which have multiple sites around Fort Wayne.
- Students may choose to visit StatCare or RediMed at their discretion. Residential students are requested to notify their RA or RD if the injury or illness is severe. When a student visits one of these facilities he/she will need to present their Taylor photo ID. StatCare and RediMed will have lists of participating students which will verify their status.
- Please note that this program provides service for full-time students (12+ hours per semester) only and students that discontinue or drop below full time during a semester are not eligible to continue to receive care at StatCare or RediMed.
- The fee for this service is $25.00.
Who participates?
All residential students are automatically a part of this program and their student account reflects the charge of this fee per semester. Any other full-time student who would like to participate may do so by contacting the secretary in Student Development. In order to secure a contract with Lutheran Health Network it is necessary to guarantee a minimum number of student participants. For that reason, the Health Service fee and its accompanying service may not be declined by residential students unless the Dean of Students grants special permission.
What is covered under this program?
- Our Health Service program intends to cover the types of injuries and illnesses that might commonly be seen by your family doctor.
- This includes things such as sore throats, infections, sprained ankles, allergy symptoms, and the common cold and flu.
- Most illnesses or injuries you would sustain in the college environment are covered. However, catastrophic injuries or illnesses which would usually necessitate emergency room care will be covered by a student's personal health insurance program.
- Please note that students needing weekly allergy shots may receive them if the student provides the medicine.
- Contact the Student Development office for details regarding allergy shots.
- A specific listing of all injuries and illnesses is available at the Student Development Office.
What is not covered?
The following are not covered as a part of the Taylor/Lutheran Health Network agreement:
- Lab testing not performed on site. StatCare/RediMed will serve as a draw-site for all non-waived tests and send to the appropriate lab.
- X-rays
- Prescription costs
- Anything that is referred out of StatCare/RediMed after the initial treatment will no longer be covered.
- Physicals for college requirements
- Students will be billed for any non-covered services performed.
Who benefits?
One of the benefits of our location in the city of Fort Wayne is our proximity to a number of reputable health service providers. In an effort to make access to local health care more affordable and student friendly, Taylor University Fort Wayne has established a relationship with Lutheran Health Network to provide for students' basic health care needs. Too often students do not have the funds readily available to see a doctor and so they attempt to just live through their injury or illness hoping their health will improve. This program will allow our students to receive health care immediately for a per-semester fee which is charged directly to the student's account. A single visit to a doctor or urgent care facility often costs more than this amount. Students may make as many visits to a Lutheran Health Network provider as is necessary throughout the academic school year.
Hours
You may choose to receive care at any of the Lutheran Health Network facilities in the city of Fort Wayne. Students will be given a map with all locations and hours of service for each facility. Please note that students needing care after regular StatCare/RediMed hours must utilize a local emergency room, which would not be covered within this agreement with Lutheran Health Network. In this case, personal health insurance should be used.
